Two World records could be achieved in one day in Co Laois

On 21st October 2012 in Durrow Co Laois one World record will be set & another possibly broken.

June 2011 seen the World record set for the largest gathering of Vintage Highnelly bicycles ever assembled in the World & put the Co Laois village into the Guiness book of records. This Month yet another unique record will be set which could indirectly break their very own record on the same day.

Irish Bike RallyThe attempt to gather in excess of 1000 Highnelly bikes & create a  wheel visible from 1000 feet in the air.  This will be achieved by lining up the bikes & their riders wheel to wheel around the 170 feet wide village green to create the circumference representing the outside rim of the wheel & then more bikes wheel to wheel to create the spokes from the outside of the wheel to the centre.

It is estimated that 300-400 bikes will be required to create the rim of the wheel & as many spokes as possible will be used to complete the wheel utilizing every bike that turns up.

Bikes have registered from all corners of Ireland & England to take part. Eleven official Highnelly bike clubs now exist across Ireland which is a testimony of the unique love that the Irish have for the iconic bicycle that so many families had to use to simply survive in years gone by.

Private pilot & Professional HighNelly bicycle restorer Paul Ryan from Cappamore Co Limerick has agreed to take Arial photographs of the mammoth event on behalf of the Guiness Book Of Records on the day.

All proceeds gathered on the day will be In Aid of Kolbe Special School Laois.
